I am a long time customer. Kobe has moved down the freeway to the Kroger parking lot. The new digs are up-to-date and the sushi is still fresh and tasty. My personal faves on the menu are the Salmon Special (a version of salmon tataki) and the Crispy Salmon Skin appetizer. Sure, this may not be the most 'Japanese' place in Houston, but good food and good service are always appreciated.
I visited Kobe an hour ago. I met two Mexicans, one Chinese, one Malaysian (the owner, I think) and an Indonesian. So, where are the Japanese? Like other Japanese restaurants here, Kobe serves shrimp, sweet potato and onion tampura and some sushi and sashimi. Is this Japanese? I say not. Just a formula that is copied by many. Try to find fried rice in Japan. You won't. Not very good and I will still keep looking. My next stop will be Westheimer where all of the Japanese restaurants seem to congregate.
By the way, I never saw an Asian customer here. In Asia, fresh seafood usually comes from creatures that you see live just before they are cooked. I expect the same treatment from Asian restaurants here!!! So there!
great local sushi: Almost like it' s Houston's sushi secret, Kobe is quiet and understated with the focus where it should be- on food and service. Quality of food is excellent, service is friendly and helpful, value is great as well. After my first meal there I went back twice for take out in the same week!

To be specific, Kobe is now located at the corner of Echo Lane and I-10. Karen and Daniel will always take good care of you.
