July 10,2009........My mother is burried there along with several friends and neighbors. I personally have worked there, but it was about 20 years ago. I do not know who runs the cemetery now, but you do have an advocate with The State of Texas Cemetery Association. Also , they are actually owned by Service Corporation of America. There are located here in Houston right off of Waugh Drive and Allen Parkway. You will see their building with a great big SCI on the side. If you have any trouble go there, I gurantee that it will be fixed and fixed correctly. Things were a lot differnt when the Saunders Family owned Brookside. It was a beautiful Cemetery and Funeral Home. But as with all things a big corporation came in and took them over.
As for me, I still own lots there. I will not be burried there because of the decline in the neighborhoods arround the cemetery. The crime is just aweful. I personally want to be burried some where out of town. If I had the money to do it, I would have my mother moved elsewhere due to the crime.
I was told my bother would have a Military head stone after normal waiting perioded of having it made and have it shipped to the cemtery. When this time came and gone and there was no head I found out the cemtery had not ordered it. It can down that the Funeral Director had given the cemtery a copy of my brother's DD-214. Slip-up number two came when the head stone was to be set for my brother, my sister and I split the cost across our credit cards. So at first, the cemtery could not find where we had paid for the sitting of the head stone. I buried my brother on May 1, 2006 and grandmother on May 5, 2006. Same Funeral Director whom I did feel did great job. The lacking in customer standard is on the Cemtery side of things.
Poor unacceptable service for a Burial of Loved On: My grandfather's burial was held here. The date was 7/6/07. On that day, it rained very hard. We were assured that the burial would be done. The next day Saturday, 7/7/07, we went back to the burial site. The grave was covered with a piece of plywood. Under the plywood, the spot was not filled with dirt. The headstone was thrown to the side about 6-8 feet away. On Tuesday, Liz Rodgers phoned the family and said the burial would be completely properly that day. The entire week of July 9, it did not rain, so the weather was not a factor. On Friday, July 13, a family member visited the grave and it was still in the same disarray. We were told that day that we had to wait until Monday 7/16/07 for the general director to be contacted. This is a full 10 days later and my grandfather's burial was not held properly. We have many family members put to rest here and this is not acceptable. Brookside will never get our business again. The best business is word of mouth. We will make sure and tell everyone about your service.
