I don't like giving bad reviews, but I have to here. I wen't to Chayn's off and on for about two years. In that time it went from a bad but entertaining nightclub, to just down right pathetic. When I first started going It would have a decent crowd, if cougars are your game. But the numbers kept dwindeling. On my last night there I counted 19 people. That number doesn't include me or the waitstaff. And this was on the so called "ladies night." Speaking of the waitstaff, there where all new faces everytime I went in, which tells me that they wern't making any money, or there where problems behind the sceans. Also, the decore looks like something from the '70's, and I don't mean that in a good way. They also started asking for a $7 cover charge. It was free to get in for a long time, but once the place was sold and business began to dwindle, suddenly you had to pay a cover. Also, it's a craps shoot wether or not the few people you see there are going to be thugs. I'd like to tempere this review with something good, but I can't. I wouldn't go here as a joke, no kidding.
An update is in order. The marquee for this establishment sits on the side of FM 1960 for all to see. Recently I drove by and glanced at it to see what it said. "No Cover" and "Now hiring" where written on both sides. Comical indeed. This place can't seem to keep waitstaff, and them reverting back to no cover seems a bit desperate. Business must be that bad. I may have to go back just to see how far the mighty have fallen, on second thought, I'll pass.
I started going there in 2007. Now there is a $7.00 cover charge. I only go when I don't want to drive to far. If I pay the cover I don't tip the waitress or bartenders. I encourage everyone to do the same until the cover charge is dropped. Good music, dated decor is part of the charm.
Do you tell them that's why you aren't tipping? Otherwise, they won't know that's why & they'll just assume you're the average run of the mill cheap ass. I get WHY you wouldn't tip based on cover (I hate paying cover, too) but you should TELL them after the fact that's why to really make sure you get your point across.
Chayns Night Club Now Charging a $ 7 dollar cover charge
Chayns Opened like 30 years ago its always been free.
The new owners have made changes
Is it worth it well you be the judge:
Negatives are:
Only one dance area, Yes it's very small and old, Chayns needs paint, and many upgrades, only one music same area, Many clubs that charge a cover like this have different rooms with different Music, Also rooms that have Pool tables/ Games or Karaoke.
No out side patio area to drink or smoke, small bathrooms, old and broken doors in the men's bathroom, The men that work the bathroom are always wanting a tip, and there is no space to wash your hands.
Positives are:
If you live north its close, Yes you can smoke inside,
Yes even cigars, Many clubs in Houston no smoking.
Brand new light show and sound, Music videos, Chayns now has a stage.
John first of all this place still sucks they need to pay me to go there and still I wouldnt go to this place. You can smoke outside the city basically in all clubs. they light show if thats what you want to call it looks like a light I used to see in amerstdam red lite district. and the stage they converted that it used to be where people use ti sit and its big enough for about four people to dance on who u kidding you must be screwing the door girls did they put you up to this...... chayns sucks
