the food is very average and is over priced. if you are in a hurry i would not recommend going it. it is a come and relax atmosphere.
After reading the recommendation on this place in the current issue of Texas Highways Magazine (the "bible"), I am looking forward to trying it out when my wife and I visit Galveston in 2 weeks. The 3 reviews posted are a tad discouraging! The senior couple can be excused (I have elderly in-laws who dislake most any restaurant we visit!!). Regarding the others, I tried unsuccessfully to ignore the use of the terms "awesome" and "to die for" and was scared to see the words "exemplary" and "elegant ambiance". I can only hope to dine with some regular folk whose attitudes and vocabularies fall somehwere in between these groups. :-) Will report back after the big event. Laid back in NT
WIFE AND I HAD LUNCH AT CLARY'S ON FEB 28. DROVE DOWN FROM HOUSTON TO GO TO GAIDO'S, BUT FRIEND DIVERTED US TO THIS PLACE. A ONE WORD DESCRIPTION TELLS ALL: AWFUL. SHOULD HAVE BEEN WARY WHEN THERE WERE ONLY THREE CARS IN PARKING LOT AT NOON. ONLY TWO OTHER TABLES WERE OCCUPIED. USHERED TO TABLE. TEN MIN LATER HOSTESS RETURNED AND ASKED IF WE WANTED A DRINK. AFTER DRINK SERTVED, IT TOOK ANOTHER 20 MIN OR SO FOR THE WAITER TO APPEAR. WIFE HAD BROILED FLOUNDER($23), I HAD CRABMEAT($30.75). BOTH WERE UTTERLY TASTELESS. CRABMEAT HAD A SPLOTCH OF GUMMY MELTED YELLOW CHEESE ON TOP. TARTER SAUCE MYSTERIOUS. BOTH OF US (AND WE'RE VERY SR CITIZENS) HAD NEVER TASTED ANYTHING LIKE IT. SALAD WAS A BIT OF LETTUCE AND A CHERRY TOMATO WITH GROCERY STORE DRESSING. BREAD WAS WHAT APPEARED TO BE PEPPERIDGE FARM, ALSO FROM GROCERY. TWO MINESCULE SIDES OF LYONAISE POTATOES WERE UNHEATED AND APPEARED TO BE A DAY OR TWO OLD. CANNED GREEN BEANS (MAYBE THREE BEANS TOTAL CUT UP) ALSO UNREMARKABLE. TO TOP THINGS OFF, WIFE'S DIET COKE WAS $4. THIS PLACE IS BOTH A CULINARY AND MONETARY RIP-OFF, GIVEN CHERRY TOMATO WAS SOLE TASTEFUL ITEM SERVED. RATED ONE STAR SO REVIEW COULD BE POSTED, BUT IT DOES NOT EVEN COME CLOSE TO THAT.
