If youâre interested in bland food with horrible service, this place is for you. Our dinner experience (4/7/09)got off on the wrong foot when they brought out the chips and salsa or, more accurately, the chips and tomato sauce. The "salsa" was nothing more than plain tomato sauce with zero flavor and no kick or spiciness whatsoever.
Things got worse with the next course. The Spicy Cream of Pablano soup was neither creamy nor spicy. It tasted like âcream-of-undefined matterâ with a minute amount of pablano chili pepper in it. And the Guacamole appetizer consisted of sliced avocados... and nothing else. No lime juice, no tomato, no garlic or cilantro. Just sliced avocados. That, my friends, is not guacamole.
The entrees were the real low point of the evening. I had the daily special of fish tacos. They were tacos in the sense that some stuff was placed in a soft flour tortilla shell, but the grilled fish had absoultley no flavor at all. I managed to eat one and left the other to try the beans and rice side dishes. The chef really outdid himself by opening a can of pinto beans. At this point I was surprised he even bothered to heat them up. Forget the rice, itâs not even worth mentioning.
My dinner companion chose the Meatless Dinner which could also be called the âFlavorless Dinnerâ or perhaps the âPointless Dinnerâ. It was supposed to be an Enchilada combined with a Guacamole Chalupa. Weâve had better enchiladas from the freezer and donât get me started on the guacamole again.
Did I mention the poor service? While we attempted to eat this mess, the young man who waited on us with an attitude that suggested we were somehow bothering him by patronizing their establishment sat at a nearby table surfing the internet with his laptop computer. There were only two other tables in the place but we had to ask for anything else we needed and no one ever stopped by to ask if everything was ok or how the food was. And in retrospect thatâs probably a good thing except they will never know what a bad experience their restaurant was unless they read this review.
Good food and great service. A tad high, but I would go back again.
i'm lovin it: Eating there reminds me of home, it actually kind of is. The prices are a bit high, but you get what you pay for. Definatly worth the trip downtown.
