An absolutely beautiful setting, but the food is disgusting it is just the same as everywhere else, same salads, same burgers same steaks and same salmon. I was very sick after eating the steak and mashed potatoes and my husbands salmon was not cooked all the way thru. It would have been nice to see some different items on the menu instead of the same old stuff you can get from chili's or appleby's. I don't expect high class full service menu but just something that would suit the environment more and a little more pride in what is being cooked - please note chefs the Food Network Channel has some awesome shows with wonderful recipes and hints and tips - also I think you need a dash of Gordon Ramsay. Please the setting is stunningly beautiful, make you menu and the food you serve well worth the trip out there.
awful....just plain horrible experience...don't get me wrong or twisted...the food was OK..nothing great...there are better....the atmosphere is fine....but if you want to eat in comfort I would not go here.... last weekend was my first and last time at this place......paid a little of $110..00 for 4 people...wish is about normal....but it was just way to hot....sticky to be waiting outside....then we had 2 individuals in our party that had very visual physical limitations....and when they take us to sit us..its pass the main area ...way in the back...down some stairs....then shoved in between several crowed benches... I was like "really...your kidding right"....had to get with the manger to correct this obvious mistake.......sorry..if I am paying over a hound dollars for a meal...I better be comfortable ...there needs to be air condition...and there should not be leaves and small branches falling in my food and dirnks...guess 'm just used to the city life.....and this country dinning I just dot get...never again .....
We've never had less than an exceptional dining experience here. The decor, especially during the holiday season, is worth a visit, and the outside dining has great views of the river. The best tuna fillet I've ever had. THE place to take visitors.

This place isn't all that it's cracked up to be but if you are a local you should know of a place called Gruene River Grill. It hasn't been around as long as Gristmaill but is just down the street. Gruene River Grill has amazing food overlooking the Guadalupe River as well and they have Air Conditioning! A must when you are waking around Gruene all day! Try GRG's balsamic ribeye or chicken guadalupe. If you get an appetizer the shrimp wontons are to die for and the jalapeno corn chowder soup is out of this world. I definitely reccommend checking this place out!
