| About: | Only about a 30-minute drive from downtown San Antonio, this hall's tiny stage has hosted more legendary musicians than anywhere else. It is also not uncommon to encounter a film crew using the historic hall as a backdrop for a major motion picture or music video. The hall is basic, with its wooden floor, long bar, cold beer, guys in cowboy hats and girls in tight jeans, but it is also authentic. The building was constructed in the late 1880s as the social center of a small cotton farming community. In the 1970s it was saved from sure decimation by its current owners, and it has since become an institution in Texas music. Past performers have included Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Kelly Willis, Marty Stuart, Joe Ely and many, many more. Cover charges vary. |

Dancing and cold beer: This place is Texas...what can we say. you have to experience it. The beer is cold and cheap and the music great. No frill just a good time. Texas Dance hall grand daddy. Check it out
Best of the Best: Gruene Hall is like stepping into history. It is about walking through those screen doors and looking at all the Legends on the wall. George Strait, Garth Brooks, Charlie Rich, etc, have all played there. You couple that with today's entertainers in Texas like Pat Green, Cory Morrow, Kevin Fowler, Reckless Kelly, Charlie and Bruce Robison, Rodney Crowell and it is merely something spectacular. The beer is cold and the music is hot. It gets crowded, but that tells you that they are still doing things right. There is no better place to watch a show at night, or just go in during the day and drink a beer and look at all the performer's pictures.
Wonderful Live Music: The Oldest Dance Hall In Texas in the Historical distrct of Gruene, Texas. A very friendly atmosphere with live music, usually free of charge and when not free then at very low cost and always well worth it.
