Company Information: What was once a private Catholic school in the mid-19th century is now one of San Antonio's most elegant hotels. Located on the city's famous River Walk, La Mansion del Rio boasts historical Spanish Missionary architecture, lush gardens, sparkling fountains and luxurious amenities. This place has been the first choice in hotels by dignitaries, celebrities, tourists and discriminating locals for decades. All guestrooms are equipped with two-line phones and modem access.

Stayed here for Fiesta 2008.
CONS: No free parking - $28/night for valet - or park across the street in the city lot for $7 a night. (no in/out - pay each time you leave the garage) No free wifi in the rooms - $9.95 per connection via dataport. The photos on the website are beautiful, but be aware that the rooms on the other side of the hotel face the city parking garage - and you get a lovely view of it from the balcony. As others have said, you can hear everything going on outside the room. (That includes the construction that started at 7am each morning.. )
PROS: Riverwalk is right outside the door. Alamo is right around the corner. Walk to everything downtown. Convenient location if you're looking for the downtown/Riverwalk experience. Room was clean and bed was very comfortable.
Overall Opinion: Room was decent, but overpriced.
Great hotel, Great service, Great location. Highly recommanded.
Anyone who doesn't like this hotel needs to get a life.
Can't wait to go back.
No Service, No Thank You: We were in three rooms in an hour. I asked for a King Room overlooking the Riverwalk. We got a twin overlooking the courtyard. We moved to another room, but they couldn't get the door open. After the third try on the door, the custodian was able to get it open. But then the lights wouldn't work. Finally, we got to a third room. The staff didn't even say they were sorry. However, the final room was next to the street. All night the roar of the buses and the yelling of the gangsters outside kept us awake.
The walls are pencil thin. We could even hear the sound of the shower curtain sliding open next door. Even when we left, the valets couldn't get our car right.
On the good side, the lobby is pretty and the old building is charming. It's too bad that the staff and the rooms aren't up to the charm of the original building.
