Best non-tourist bar in San Antonio: Stumbled into the Esquire the first night of a 5 night conference event--and ended up back there every night! Inexpensive drinks and a very friendly staff made for fun, fun, fun! They also are one of the few bars serving Alamo beer, a local treat.
Maybe the worst thing about the Esquire is the fact it closes much too early for the type of bar it is. I'm from Chicago where taverns like the Esquire stay open until 4:00 am; the latest we stayed was 1:00 on Saturday. However, this is more a reflection on San Antonio than the Esquire itself.
Way recommended.
