Just average. Had escargot, spring roll and oyster appetizers, nothing was mouth watering, no unique flavors. Roquefort salad dressing was bland-- how do you manage that? Main course snapper baked with truffles, just tasted like heavy cream poured over fish. Wasn't bad food, but very bland. Service was good. Won't go back, prefer other french restaurants in town...gave it a try, and wasn't that great.
My wife and I have been twice to Frederick's. The first time was for a regular a la carte dining experience, and the second time was for one of the monthly gourmet food and wine prix fixe events that Frederick's hosts. On both occasions the food was outstanding; absolute perfection. I especially recommend going to one of the monthly gourmet dinners; the prices are pretty high, but you will not be sorry. For our gourmet dinner we ate five courses, each paired with a wine selected by the chef; the cream of cauliflour soup with curried shrimp was excellent. This was followed by an appetizer of two (per person, mind you) very large sea scallops cooked to absolute perfection, and topped with pancetta and olive oil. Next was a green salad with pan-fried mozzerella; the dressing was good, not great, but the mozzerella was a wonderful treat with a delicate texture and a rich, nutty flavor. The main course was a generous portion of lamb -- two chops and one lamb shank -- on a bed of couscous that I one of the best dishes I have ever tasted; and when I sipped the excellent Australian Shiraz it was paired with this night became one my best dining experiences ever; and I say this after just having been to Paris recently where I made it a point to seek out great food. Desert was a chocolate pear cake paired with a tawny port that was again outstanding. The whole gourmet meal took over three hours and every minute was a joy. This is absolutely one of the top restaruants in the San Antonio metro area. The service is top notch: friendly but formal; no detail is left unattended, our waiter played the part of an excellent host (and he shakes a great Manhattan). This place is expensive, but if you can't afford a trip to Europe, just go here instead; you won't find any better food than this in Paris and you'll save a 13 hour flight.
Best Seafood in Town.
Try the appetizers, as they are all great starters.
Save room for the specialty desserts -- with Asian flair.
