This is a delightful gem that San Antonio is fortunate to have to augment its ethnic cucina. It is suitable for romantic, or solitary dining. The staff is quite knowledgeable and impeccable. Some surprisingly delightful wines at reasonable prices. Will always stop by one night when In San Antone...a treat!
This place is unbelievable!!! We celebrated my husband's birthday with all of our kids and everyone ranted and raved about the food and the service, which was flexible (they gave us small places so we could all try each other's entree). Highly recommended!!!!
Excellent food if you can afford it. Mainly French and European styled cuisine. Tommy Lee Jones can often be seen here with some new girlfriend. Watch out for his Black Mercedes and personal bodyguard, Lee Fong, a martial arts expert. The best food on the ever changing menu has to be the fois gras, pickled veal testicles with a Bernaise sauce, and the sauteed Sheeps penis with anchovies. Not for the light hearted!

A disgusting pretentious display of culinary dumbness. The food is amateur, the service bad, and the atmosphere like a funeral.
Having seen Mr. Martinez's comment, I can say that my reaction is "timing is everything" and any cucina's competetence on any given night, fluxuates in terms of that evening's staff, and supervision. But on ambition, ambience, menu alone, I wish Bistro Vatel well and won't hesitate to keep patronizing them while I continue to delight in their fare.
I was recommended thus dump by a friend from Austin. It's a reputed star hangout with the likes of Tom Lee Jones, George Straight, and Henry Cisneros. The food was good but the service was questionable. My mother who is confined to a wheelchair and oxygen tank was unable to navigate the tight quarters of the room. Therefore, we were seated next to the restroom. The odors drifting from the toilets made us very ill and ruined the osso bucco I ordered. My mother became ill and vomited in her wheelchair in the parking lot. My tio was in tears as we drove home in disgust.
