| About: | For authentic Cajun cookin', this is the place to go in San Antonio. Located on the far west side of the city, the huge restaurant plays host to hordes of locals craving authentic Cajun cuisine, seafood and catfish. As this is definitely a family restaurant, you can expect child and parent-friendly touches such as lids and straws for milk glasses, a plentiful supply of saltines to munch on, and crayons as a diversion. Housed in what resembles a massive two-story cedar house, the restaurant boasts a large porch and a cavernous interior. The quick and friendly service more than compensates for a table setting that leaves something to be desired (vinyl cloths, heavy wooden chairs and tables balanced on sugar packets for stability). Cajun specialties such as red beans and rice, gumbo and jambalaya abound, and all are wonderfully prepared. Should you crave seafood, any of the shrimp entrees can't be beat. For fish lovers, be sure to try the famous catfish. Side dishes include expected choices such as coleslaw, potato salad, hush puppies and basic vegetables. |

I lived in houston for several years, so I got hooked on cajun food. Then I moved over here and decided to try this place out. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it was really bad. The food was underseasoned and overpriced.
I went there to try their food. I am pure cajun from New Iberia. True Acadiana. I did not get to taste everything they had. But some of the things I had were not very good at all. The rice and gravy was not browned. Cajun rice and gravy is made from a roux. Which is the base of all gravy, stew and gumbos. Shrimp, catfish, and oysters were OK. The stuffed crab had more breading and fillers than crabmeat, also hard battered crust, not good. Red beans and rice was (so,so) but no sausage. Cornbread was like white cake, just need icing and happy birthday. I bought some other items. The sampler. Crawfish etouffee was like goo in a little container with rice and didn't have any flavor. The jambalaya was (so,so). The gumbo in a little container with rice was like a mush, no juice like cajun gumbo to go in real acadiana. I also had the boudin with red beans and rice. Let me tell you that was the sorriest boudin I ever saw in my life. A link about 6 inches long. This was like mushed rice with very little meat, hardly any onions, peppers, green onions, and such, no flavor. Let me stop. I think I said enough. This place is overpriced for what you get. Maybe some other people think this is authentic. They just haven't been to the real Acadiana. Oh,one thing I forgot to mention. The people there were very nice people. And the service is good. For all take this as you want or with a grain of salt. And thats how it be. Comme ceci, comme cela.
The food has for sure improved here. My husband's step dad has been a cook there for like years and so he took me there a few years ago and I hated it! The portions were small for the price and I didn't like the taste. We recently made a trip back and the portion size is much bigger we had left overs. They have awesome lunch specials. The chicken fried steak rocks, so do the cajun nachos and the stuff potatoes also don't forget to try their fresh hot biscuits!
