I usually use this place for grooming only. Recently I needed to be away and had to board my Irish Setter. I was very pleased with my experience with another aspect of their business. I do very little vacationing because I am always worried about what to do with my dog. Looks like I'll be getting out of town a little more often since I don't have to worry so much about "Tanji" while she boards at this kennel.
I have literally visited each and every kennel in and around San Antonio. I have tried two other kennels with various dogs I have owned, but have never been more pleased than with Home Away From Home! My dog (boxer) daycares Mon - Fri and I cannot be more grateful for the peace of mind I get when I leave my dog every morning. From the reception staff with their wonderful smiles to the kennel staff that gives my dog fantastic care, I am VERY pleased. My dog loves this kennel, it's very clean, and it's affordable. THANKS TO ALL AT HOME AWAY FROM HOME!
The place seemed really nice and friendly and made me comfortable with the care my dog would receive. I kenneled him for ten days there. First when I picked him up they tried to overcharge me. Either a really dumb clerk or this is common routine for them. I noticed soft stool with him as soon as I got him back. I waited to see if it cleared it and it didn't. I took him to my vet only to find out he contracted giradai. A parasite that not only attacks him but also humans. For the money you spend at this place, $21 a day, I would strongly suggest bringing your pet to a cleaner kennel and save you the $200+ I've already spent in vet bills.

I believe the correct spelling is actually Giardia. The parasite is more common in places with stagnant water and I have toured Home Away From Home many times (my dog does day care there), and have never seen dirty, standing water. I have always found the reception staff to be great, not "dumb". Did your dog ever have a fecal from the vet prior to you boarding? Did you ever call the kennel back to inform them of the situation? I have always found them easy to talk to.
