I went with friends for my birthday lunch. The place looked really run-down and on the verge of unclean. The décor really seemed as if it were collected by a ten year old and implemented by a drunk, and the whole place had a strong odor of carpet cleaner.
The prices were average and so was the food. Teriyaki steak was tough, but the shrimp was good (itâs hard to screw up shrimp). Everything else was profoundly unremarkable.
The only thing that could have saved the day would have been the kind of entertaining banter I have come to expect from Japanese Hibachi Chefs. In lieu of that, we were treated to racial jokes. No kidding. Being of Asian descent, he led with an Asian joke in a transparent attempt to pave the way for other races. In a good natured hint, I told him the Asian joke wasnât as offensive because it was racial as it was because it was just plain stupid. Of course, his witty retort was to question my sense of humor. When he finally got around to the more offensive racial teenage-sex jokes, my friend took a more direct approach and told him she did not think there was anything funny about his jokes. Again, our comic geniusâ responded by challenging her sense of humor.
I think I actually had a kind of âflight-or-fightâ response that caused me to start shaking and blurt out all the Scottish jokes I know in hopes he will re-tell them in the hearing of a Scot who can afford a little jail time. :)
If I ever return, I'll dial 911 in advance.
food is great... people who work there are nice...large portions ...would highly recommend...
I was also there on Valentine's Day and had to wait, but I think the wait was well worth it. The food was amazing and so was our chef, John. I liked the food and the show better than Benihana. I also thought the portion sizes were fine. I took home a meal for the next day. John may have been harassed a bit, but I think he also enjoyed it. :)
My only dilema is there isn't carryout...or is there?
