User Rating: 2 out of 5 starsTerrible service including the manager. After the waiter offered an extra serving of meat, complimentary of the house, I was charged $6.00 for bagging my left overs. I advised the manager that we had never been charged for taking our left overs, he strong advised me in front of all the customers that the food was to eat in the restaurant and not to take home and he walked away. My comment was "You just lost a frequent customer."
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsOK SO I'VE NEVER BEEN TO ROBSTOWN OR COTTENS BBQ, BUT I HAVE TO SAY WOW!!! FIRST THE PREVIOUS REVIEWS ARE WRITEN OBVIOUSLY BY COMPETITORS. THE ATMOSPHERE WAS GREAT, QUIET. THE STAFF DID NOT LOOK OR APPEAR OR ACT LIKE "GANGBANGERS". THE FOOD CAME OUT QUICK, AND EVEN THOUGH THE CHEESE SPREAD IS NOT SERVED TILL AFTER 4PM THE WAITER SMILED AND SAID HE WOULD BRING SOME. I BEING A FAT COW, WHO LOVES GOOD BBQ ORDERED THE 3 MEAT PLATE. AT FIRST IT APPEARED THAT THERE WASN'T A LOT OF FOOD, BUT I FOUND MYSELF GETTING FULL FROM WHAT WAS DELIVERED. AS I TOOK MY LAST BITE AND WAS COMPLETELY SATISFIED THE WAITER ASKE, "WOULD YOU CARE FOR MORE MEAT" ME BEING THE AFOREMENTIONED FAT COW, SAID ABSOLUTLY. ONE THING THAT WAS COOL, WAS THAT THE FOOD CAME ON BUTCHER PAPER AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS WIERD BUT WHILE EATING I REALIZED IT MADE FOR SO MUCH ROOM TO EAT.
OK SO HOW WAS THE FOOD, WELL, GREAT! THE BRISKET WAS TENDER AND JUICY, WITH A TON OF FLAVOR. NOW I DID GO WITH THE STRINGY SIDE, AS SUGGESTED BY PREVIOUS POST'S, AND WAS VERY HAPPY. THE SAUSAGE AND RIBS WERE AWSOME.BEAN WERE PERFECT, WELL NOT AS GOOD AS MY GIRLFRIENDS. BUT THESE WERE GREAT.
THE BBQ SAUCE.. OK LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE EXPECTING SAUCE FROM THE STORE. THIS SAUCE IS HOMEMADE. IT'S THIN FLAVORABLE AND THIN. I LOVED IT.
SO IS THERE ANYTHING I DIDN'T LIKE, YES. I DID NOT LIKE THE POTATOE SALAD. I DON'T LIKE PICKLES OR RELISH AND THATS THE ONLY REASON. GO HERE BRING CASH, OH YEAH THESE PEOPLE WHO COMPLAIN THAT THEY DON'T ACCEPT CREDIT, CHECKS, OR SPLIT CHECKS, THEY POST SIGNS ALL OVER THE PLACE STATING THIS BEFORE YOU ENTER THE BUILDING.
GO THERE AND ENJOY, IF I MAKE IT BACK THIS WAY I WILL STOP AGAIN. I LIVE IN FLA SO I LIVE WAY TO FAR JUST FOR FOOD. LOL TAKE CARE ALL-

Great place to dine in. Love the food and service. Plus the atmosphere is relaxed and fun. And you can get seconds (I love that). Anyone who is a BBQ fan Cottens is a must to try.

My husband has been going to Cotten's BBQ since it offered only sandwiches, which is to say for years and years. We are now eligible to join AARP but haven't. The wait staff and the managers have never provided poor service, much less terrible service, that I have witnessed. The unofficial motto is "if you leave here hungry, it's your own fault"; so, for the price and the offering of extra servings, there is really no need for a doggie bag. Personally, after all of these years, it has never crossed my mind to even think of asking for a doggie bag. Why ask for more if you only intent is to take it home? The manager is correct, Joe Cotten's BBQ is meant to eat in the restaurant; however, I can only think that since you "advised" the manager in front of the customers, maybe he was simply responding to your confrontation. To all others: Do not let this review deter you from visiting this fine establishment. Go, dine on good BBQ, pleasant atmosphere, and very professional wait staff and management. Take cash or be prepared to use the ATM they provide. It's not a secret that they do not take checks or credit cards. ENJOY!
