This place is discourteous and has poor, slow service. After changing my address 2 months ago my license still has not arrived. I called and the woman on the phone laughed at me and told me I'd have to drive there and show them my temporary license. I took 2 hours of my day and went down there only to be told it was lost in the mail! They let me know "don't worry about it" (the one lost in the mail) as this one would replace it. They also stated that both licenses (the one I re-applied for today and the lost license in the mail) are both valid. So I left a message after going home that I don't want an extra license "lost" and unaccounted for and have it fall into the wrong hands (identity theft etc.). Also, on the way out the door one of the troopers said to the lady at the desk "that's just another person who thinks they have rights". Apparently they didn't like seeing a frustrated customer with an "attitude" who didn't feel like being laughed at and have an id with my name on it floating around the world. It was the one on Paredes Line Road.
Yup! Bad DMV.: The above post beat me to it, but yes, this place is bad when it comes to the driving testing part. Instead of having all those people data entering they need to get more employees trained on testing.
Also, I went to ask what I needed for a Drivers License and was told to get a Voters Registration Card...uh, I have a US Passport, US Birth Certificate, and my SS Card with me...and I need a Voters Registration Card too? Avoid this place and find another city, unless you like dealing with a department that's not the brightest crayon in the box.
Oh, yeah, and bring your sleeping bags when getting a Driving Exam, you'll be waiting in line (outside) a few hours before they open, with no bathrooms!
TRY ANOTHER CITY: TRY HARLINGEN, OR MCALLEN OR ANY OTHER CITY. THE ONE IN BROWNSVILLE IS FAST WHEN IT COMES TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN A DRIVING EXAM. I HAD TO LINE UP AT 5 IN THE MORNING WITH NO CHAIRS OR RESTROOMS AND I WAS NOT GUARANTEED A DRIVING TEST SPOT.
OTHER CITIES HAVE ENOUGH TEST DRIVERS AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT IN LINE SO LONG. AS LONG AS YOU GET IN BEFORE 12 NOON OTHER CITIES WILL WORK OUT, BUT NOT IN BROWNSVILLE. AVOID THE BROWNSVILLE DMV.
