I'm a local...and this place is the best!!!! My fav is the half chicken...
I Like Spyke!: Hey everybody!! Jesse Ratliff here. I happened across this review point for Spyke's BBQ and just had to find the "write a review" link. Let me give you my "expert" advice...
Spyke's BBQ is probably my favorite spot for lunch in all the highland lakes and hill country area. Yeah, there are other BBQ shacks around, but come on... Spyke's is centralized for the area. Even before I moved to Kingsland from Marble Falls, I found myself in the Kingsland area more often than MF when it came to chow. Try this. Walk in the door at Spyke's around 11:15 - 11:30am ( you know, to beat the rush). Now, try to make it to the ordering counter without being greeted by the friendly folks of the staff. I'll bet you a chopped-beef sandwich you can't do it. Then after you share "howdy"'s and swap smiles, you'll instantly realize there is a terrific scent surrounding you. Look over the menu (for the newbies), then let the gals know what you are going to limit yourself to today. Be certain to review the "daily special" (again for you newbies, but don't worry, you'll catch on) before making your first answer your final answer. Grab your plate, gather up your sides and trimmings, fill your cup (Excellent sweet tea, I may add), then proceed to the register. Now comes the tricky part. You are about to hear your "total due", and it may shock you. You might find yourself in disbelief when your total is way less than you were planning on spending for such great bbq and service. It's okay, just take a slow, deep breath,,, relax, and complete the task at hand. All that's left to do is look around and find a spot to sit and dig in. I personally try to find someone (whether I know them or not) to sit near. It's more enjoyable when you have someone close by to share comments on the tasty treasures before you.
Don't believe me?
Well, guess you'll have to find out what Spyke's is all about on your own. Who knows, maybe you'll sit near me and we can discuss your "new" favorite place to eat lunch in the area!!
