Excellent breakfast tacos but the rest is standard fare. Having gotten their start in the breakfast taco business, that's the only thing El Charrito really does well any more.
11-15 years ago, I thought it was the best Mexican food in Georgetown... then, about 9-10 years ago, it all changed and hasn't been the same since. The fajitas have less flavor and the beef can be just bad. They used to pop on health inspection pretty regular.. that didn't both me unless there was something wrong with the food itself and occasionally there was. If they're still having inspection problems, I haven't heard lately.
I do not recommend it except for breakfast.
Good, solid, local Mexican food. Wonderful, authenic atmosphere.
I'm giving it 5 stars because it succeeds in all it sets out to do. It is a "dive" with the best Mexican food around. If you want the Mexican place with the fiesta atmosphere, go to Chuy's in Round Rock. This place is the real deal. I grew up in Georgetown, and have lived in California and now Boston. I CRAVE El Charrito. Best breakfast tacos, best tacos, best queso, best salsa. And the prices cannot be beat. Of course, the servers don't speak a lot of English, and the place has cafeteria style atmosphere; but that's what makes it great.
