My husband and I stopped in Saturday for some iced coffee. The man behind the counter nodded to us, then strolled into the back. We assumed he would be right back. We waited for him for 8 minutes, then left without buying anything. What's worse then bad customer service? NO customer service :(
This is quite honestly my favorite cafe in Texas. The food and service are as phenomenal as the best the big cities have to offer, but with the easy-going, small town comfort of Main Street, Bastrop. (FYI: THEY'VE NOW MOVED ACROSS THE STREET TO 811 MAIN ST, ACROSS FROM THE WELLS FARGO) I know a number of Austinites that drive the 45 minutes to Bastrop just to spend time at the Green Chai. Contrary to the other reviewer, in the 4 or 5 years that my friends and I have been regulars, none of us have ever had any issues being able to study there. However, most of the time I find myself far more engaged by the amazing food, and the friendly people.
Always my first stop after a drive from Austin, the Green Chai is an Oasis for me when I visit the little down of Bastrop, TX. In my fine opinion there is simply no other place to get quality vegetarian fare in town. My personal favorites are the Chai (the drink) margarita pizza and the chocolate chip cookies (try the cookies). I've sent many friends there and i've had no complaints yet! Tell Matt that Phil sent you!
