Went to Stubbs August 21,2009 to see Blue October.. We stood in line for 3 hours outside so we could be close to the stage. No big deal, we sat on the concrete (smart people took fold up chairs). Concert was to start at 7 PM and at 5 PM we were told we had to move off the side walk. So we ended up standing for 2 hours because in order to get off the side walk was all grass and it was wet. We figured they were lining us up to go inside the out door concert area. No we just stood for 2 hours - every one! Then they finally let us go in. We got a great spot near the stage. Around 7:45PM still no concert going on. You can not move you are packed in like cattle. Every one was complaining that their legs and feet were hurting. My feet and legs were no exception. When you can not move around they tend to do that. Finally I yelled out to the security "when the hell is the concert going to start the tickets said 7 PM" he yelled back "at 8:30 PM sorry". Then every one around me started asking me when did he say? People where really annoyed. At least they can do is tell people that the concert is starting late! I tried to move around as much as possible as did my husband so our legs would stop hurting. Other people tried to do the same. I could have taken a camera in but the reviews that I read said differently. Security said it was fine as long as I was not recording and it fit in my shirt pocket. No professional cameras he said. Once the concert started, it was great. Do not leave your spot as it is hell getting back to it. People will not let you by. They really should make this place non smoking. I am a smoker but I am a courteous smoker I will not smoke in crowds or around people in general. No reason to make non smokers suffer because I chose to smoke. But even in this packed crowd people lit up. The place smelled like smoke and you could not get away from people who did smoke. Then they would just drop their cigarettes and it would continue to burn because you could not see down to step on it. Really people are you that hard up you can not wait? Any way it was not muddy like a read it would be when it rains. It is packed tiny gravel. It rained the day before and that morning and there was no mud. Blue October put on a great performance and we left happy but feet and legs killing us. We had to find a place immediately to sit down. I did not try the BBQ. I live in Houston and I can't imagine Austin having Good Bar B Q. called around for a hotels and all of them were really expensive for one night. We stayed at the Hilton right up the street.
My friend and I attended a graphic arts conference in Austin a couple of months ago, and we didn't know where to eat, so we looked online - Stubbs was rated as one of the top 10 restaurants, so we went. We weren't thrilled with the food - it was OK, nothing great; however, while we were eating, a RAT came running out of the kitchen into the restaurant. We were eating late, so there were very few people there. We informed the waitress, who promptly screamed, the kitchen staff started kicking the cabinet that the rat had hidden under - but no managers came out, nobody said anything. We were handed our bill, which we paid, and the waitress disappeared. When we walked through the bar to leave, the staff were all sitting around talking like it was happy hour. I won't be going there again.
I think this restaurant relies on tourists for its business. If I was a local I wouldn't come here on a regular basis if at all. The food is fair but ridiculously overpriced. Portions are meager. Ambiance is average. Beer is nothing to write home about. Clearly this place relies on a phony reputation.
