| About: | This funky roadside restaurant, located on the grounds of Days Inn University along Interstate 35, provides a hip late-night hangout for all types. Musicians and music fans alike mingle over omelets, breakfast tacos and a full range of diner food. Students are drawn to it because of the late night hours, convenience to UT and affordable menu items. After 2am there is often a wait while the bar crowd trickles in. The walls are covered with artworknot anything typical, usually very eclectic or raw pieces are shown. The atmosphere is laid back and casual with diner booths filling the small space. |

The food ranges from incredibly great to incredibly bad...according to what day you hit it on. Unfortunately, it's very inconsistant. The atmosphere is small old dive fun, but don't go sunday before 2 pm or you'll wait forever to be seated. Waitstaff is the same as the food... some are great, some are in the wrong profession...it's a crap shoot. Over the years, I've really enjoyed this place sometimes... other times I've vowed to never return. The biggest gripe I have about seeds is the bad "eclectic" music played all the time through lousy speakers at volume levels better suited for a 17 year old boy's first car rather than a place to eat. Star Seeds... TURN THAT CRAP DOWN- nobody really wants to hear it! If you turn down the music, and start serving good food all the time rather than according to who the cook is... and got yourself a waitstaff equal to the best of your waiters... you'd be ranked a top 5 all the time and we'd visit every week. As it is, have to rank you a 2 and we only visit when the last "bad" dining experience at seeds fades from our minds. You guys have the potential to be really good, but have refused to live up to it for the 29 years i've been in Austin - too bad.
"Go somewhere else" is my advice.
The bleach smell from the front steps where someone was hosing down the pavement did not help make a good impression.
By the time the sullen waitress arrived with iced tea, my eyes were burning.
We decided to leave for Magnolia Cafe and wound up having a much better meal with much better service.
Star Seeds Cafe is now on my Never Again list.
This is simply the best last night food in Austin. You can keep Magnolia, Kerby Lane, and Katz! Great late night breakfast or other simple foods prepared in a most excellent way. Perfect.
