About:The sombreros and parrots, mixed with the Mexican music in the background, could fool diners into thinking they stepped into a fiesta. This good old-fashioned restaurant is serious about its Mexican food, served with a progressive touch. From breakfasts of huevos, rancheros or migas to dinners of grilled chicken, shrimp, fajitas and more, the food here does not fail to satisfy. The atmosphere is casual; the patio is terrific and the hot sauce is great.

    Consistently inconsistent food. Mediocre service.

I have been eating at this Restaurant for many years and always felt pretty good about the food I was eating. But last weekend my girlfriend and I went there to eat. The service was the worst it has ever been and on top of that both of us have had food poisoning since that day. I'm very disappointed with the service and the fact that both of us have been ill for the last 3 days.

I felt as though racism had something to do with the service and possibly the food as well. Because I am white and she is black. First of all they ask that you wait to be seated, at least 3 waitresses and a waiter passed us up as we waited patiently. The longest I have ever had to wait in fact. The food didn't taste as good as usual, it took at least 15 minutes or more to get chips & salsa and service was really poor. But at the time I just didn't put it all together. But now that we are both sick, it all makes sense and I will never eat at the 1st Street El Mercado again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone ever again. Erin was the server on the ticket.

This place is low key. Good place to start before you hit the town. Best meat and cheese hard taco's ever. Great Margarits's. It's always busy but never seems to be too long of a wait. All in All great place to eat. Great atmosphere!
