I have to admit the old location on 1431 was the best BBQ joint in central texas. Though it was not in a pefect location cuz it is right along Dead Mans Curve the food was great. I ate at this place for more man a decade. It was sad that they switch owners who evenutally shut it down. Leaving this community with new bbq joints popping up everywhere that are over priced, over cooked, and not as tastey. If they were to put this store back up in town at a better location, perhaps at Trails End Road and 1431, i think business would pick up even more then it had before. Unlike other competitors, Smokey J's auctually used a BBQ bit to cook thier food for the longest time, then upgraded to oven. Bring Back Smokey J's Back to our area!!!!!!!!
Best Sandwich in Austin: The half brisket/half ham sandwich with onions and a pickle is by far the best BBQ sandwich for your money. When heading down RR 620 for gas on the way to the lake, you gotta stop here and get some fabulous grub. For a little shack, it's the best. The old location on FM 1431 on the way to Jonestown/Lago Vista was great as well but alas, one location will have to do...I can eat Smokey J's daily and never get tired of their food
Smokey J's is Da-Biggity-Bomba: Smokey J's BBQ is the best roadside BBQ shack around the whole austin area. When you're out and about around the lake, you know you gotta pass through four points, and by that time, I've got the munchers pretty fierce-like. And a Sandwich or Wrap from Smokey J's always does the trick.
And the Breakfast Tacos are always delicious and fresh and you get get alot more than you pay for.
Just wanted to put in a good word for the place, been going there for a long time and I've always had a good experience.
