| About: | A trendy sushi and Japanese establishment has finally hit South Austin. Upon entering you will notice the modern earth tone decor and a full bar with over 20 beers on tap. The bar has several tables for dining and a smoking area, which is a rarity in Austin. Appetizers include Shrimp Tempura, Edamame, Gyoza and Baked Mussels. The sushi menu consists of regular favorites like Unagi (fresh water eel), Maguro (tuna), Sake (salmon) and Ebi (shrimp). It also features Hamachi (yellow tail), Suzuki (sea bass), Ika (squid), Tako (octopus) and several types of fish eggs wrapped in seaweed. Sushi boxes are available, as are a variety of special handrolls. |

For the first visit at Umi, the sushi, itself was good, but not great. But, for the price, it was worth it. The service takes away the good experience, it wasn't busy at the time of the visit and had enough employees present, but would take forever for them to come around. We weren't asked for any drink refills and took the server forever to come around with the check and then awhile to pick up the check. Overall, I would say the food was decent, while it lacked customer service.
I love to eat sushi.
I've been to practically every Japanese restrauant in town.
This place I have to say is the worst.
My husband and I had lunch there on Monday and spent $30. Not that I mind the amount we spend but it's not even worth a penny. The sashmi taste really watery. You don't taste the fish at all. It's all watery and mushy. The sushi rice is terrible. It's not cooked evenly. The rice is under cooked in some parts so it taste hard and stiff. That's not supposed to be how sushi rice taste like. The tempura wasn't not great either. The batter didn't even cover the vegetable completely. This will be our last visit to Umi.
Yummy Umi!: I love Umi and eat there as often as possible. I love the Rainbow Roll! My favorite!
