As a 22-year-old girl, I had a hard time finding a mechanic I could trust. I thought I had finally found a friend in Mopac Auto. They had always been very helpful and honest when it came to my car.
I put off taking it in for six months for a strange noise. When I finally got around to it, they were very quick to tell me that I needed a new transmission and it was going to be $1500. I explained that I had been in cars with bad transmissions and they didn't run for six months. I took my strange noise and left. I recently took it to Lonestar Transmission for a second opinion, and was told it was only going to be a $400 repair.
I am appalled at how quick Mopac Auto was to try and take advantage of me. In this case, I got very lucky because I just so happened to know better. The next girl may not be so lucky.
I have a couple of vehicles (wife's Lexus and my F150) I take there for fluid changes / state inspections and have been very happy with the quality of service and would definately recommend. I cannot provide an opinion for more complex work, but would definately not recommend Lambs of Austin. Lambs is dishonest. I have seen them disconnect an emissions hose to get the check-engine light to come on and they have misrepresented the condition of parts in order to overcharge for service work. I received a considerable refund after the parts they replaced were shown to be not defective. Always get a second opinion if you take a vehicle to Lambs. My wife hates Lambs of Austin.
I've gotten alot of work done with these guys and can tell you it's all good and very fair. I'm extremely happy with everything they've ever done. That's saying alot when it comes to an auto repair place. They've been straight forward about potential problems and even told me some cheap fixes to some potenitally expensive repairs. I wish I would have taken my car there to have the brakes done.
I've also referred 3 or 4 co-workers to have their cars worked on here. Each one had good experiences.
That said, they do seem to be a little lacking on the communication. I wouldn't think they're as bad as that other post, but you might have to call them a couple times to find out when your car will be done. Who knows...maybe the guy with the bad experience was a total jerk and they reacted poorly.
If you're a high touch person, you may find going to the dealership and paying extra for the same work a little more satisfying. Personally, I like quality work done for a fair price so I go here.
