You can read all the comments all day and never really know what to think. I recommend trying it yourself amd making your own conclusion. I like the place, and I think it delivers solid food and service, and bang for the buck. I admire a place that still sells tea for under $2!
Don't waste time or money at Camino Real. Tried it for the first time and will not be back. It still has the decor from the Italian resaurant that was there years ago. It is heavy, dank, mismatched and cheap atmosphere. The food was not even mediocre it was just plain disgusting and disappointing. I ordered 1 cheese and 1 beef enchilada plate with beans and rice. Beef had bad taste and texture -- similar to dog food. Cheap, poor tasting cheese. Tortillas had sweet almost cinnamon taste to them... not what I was expecting at all. The beans tasted like they came out of the can, to the microwave to my plate and looked like diarrhea on a plate. Rice also had a sweetness to it that was uncharacteristic. The waiter was pleasant but when asked to recommend something from the menu he only stated what other people usually order a lot of -- fajitas and enchilada's -- go figure that those would be most popular at a Mexican restaurant. He was not helpful in the decision making process. The only good quality was the tea. We will not return to this restaurant. For good Mexican I suggest Casa Garcia's or Juan in a Million.
I just ate there on Friday. Fresh, hot and delicious flautas is what was brought to me, and my buddy's burrito con carne guisada looked great. No complaints from either of us and the table salsa is outstanding. Their charro bean aren't from a can and they are really tasty. I loved the chunks of salt pork or bacon that gave them a savory, smoky taste! I hadn't been there in a few years until another buddy of mine aked me to meet him there about a month ago. It was great then as well, and it prompted my other friend and me to go Friday. The atmosphere is simple, and what I expect fro a laid-back Tex-Mex joint. Camino Real is a keeper and, better yet, a mile away!
