Spent the 3rd through the 6th of July there. I found the food to be excellent and farely priced. However, the wate staff left something to be desired. When they were waiting on you, they were great. It often took time for them to notice that you needed something. Found the food at 2 of 3 local resteraunts to be fair to good but again, wate staff was unattentive. Limpia Hotel resteraunt was over-priced but food and service were outstanding.
People in Ft Davis are are not friendly. For a county of 2500 people who depend on tourist trafic, you would expect them to at least say hello. Noone spoke to anyone as far as I could see...not even to other locals.
Birding in the park was outstanding. The park volunteer couple (who never spoke to us in 4 days) has a bird feeding station where we say about 20 birds you don't see elsewhere.
All park roads are paved which allowed my low little sports car to go anywhere.
We plan to go back next year. The lodge was wonderful
A disappointing lodging, considering the price (over $100). Staff not very helpful. Rooms in historic building have been modernized too much. Dining room substandard, with food ranging from uninspiring to unsatisfactory. No cell signal out.
