So my work takes me all over Texas and during a recent trip to Odessa I wanted something other than Mexican food on my last night in town. I did a Yahoo search for steakhouses and did not want to go a typical "chain" restaurant such as Logan's or such.....don't get me wrong, I've been there and had decent food so this is not so much a commentary on them than a review of Sid and Samâs-
I was greeted by "Laura" who would also be my waitress- she was very friendly and outgoing.....good first step. I chose the Rib eye which at 14oz was probably more than I should have ordered, but I love the way the marbling lends flavor to the meat so, what the heck. You get the obligatory salad bar and while it was not spectacular it at least had good choices and the items were very fresh.....nice second step. Steak arrives and folks, this was one large slab of beef. A cut into the center showed it cooked to perfection.....it was so tender that I had a slice off of it before I was really aware....I thought that it would take several back-and-forths with the knife but it was only like one or two and a half inch thick slice was on my fork. OK....reaaaaaal tender, but what about the taste?
HOLY CRAP!!! This could be one of the top 5 steaks that I have ever had....and that is from a Texan raised in cattle country feasting on beef for the past 40+ years. I think if I would have stared at it a little harder it would have sliced itself.
Bottom line- great, personable service- outstanding food (I had the twice baked potatoes as a side, not remarkable but not bad) and a big fat tummy.
What else do you need in Odessa? Go and enjoy!
Wow! Visited parents in W Texas and stopped here to eat...fabulous! The entire meal was great and the employees were wonderful! A native Texan, I have had great chicken fried steak in several cities...but, this was by far the best I have had. The enchilada soup was terrific too! A must visit for out-of-towners! Many Blessings. Bren
