As mentioned before, this place is overpriced and to make matters worse, portions are small. This location closes early (8PM on weekdays, I believe). The food is generally TexMex, with ground beef used in many dishes unless a request is made to alter your order. Ground beef is not used in ANY traditional, authentic Mexican dishes other than Albondigas soup. The reason this place tries to push ground beef is the cheap cost. They can get away with this due to lack of true competition in the area and an uninformed clientele.
El Meson Mexican Restaurant would not survive one week in Los Angeles.
The name says "Authintic." I agree. Being from the Houston area we know what is good Mexican food and what's not. The Mole Poblano is made to perfection. That is one of the most difficult recipes to make and they nailed it. I guage all Mexican restaurants by the quality of their fajita beef. If they skimp on the meat quality, then they skimp everywhere else. And the Fajits just melted in my mouth. Great quality and taste. The salsa is also excellent, seems to be made fresh daily. Wish they sold it seperately so I could take some home. I will be back to try out more of their menu in weeks to come.
El Meson is our favorite Mexican Restaurant in Castle Rock! My husband and I dine here whenever we have friends in town. They make their tasty salsa and tortillas fresh daily along with the rest of the food served. The green chili is excellent, could be a little spicier but its the closest I can come to feeling back at home in New Mexico. Definately not Tex-Mex, thank God. The service is friendly, fast, and excellent! I have never had to wait for a table for more than five minutes no matter what the size of our party was. You could drown in their enormously large Margarita and die very happy!
