A WONDERFUL AND UNFORGETFUL NIGHTOUT: As a valentine treat my husband and I went to an event called Cookn & Jazz, It was a third annual event celebrating Black History Month and was sponsered by American Family Insurance. What made the evening so special was that I have never been dancing with my husband and we sure got our groove on. Not only that, but a jazz singer named Yvonne Underhill was featured, she had a wonderful singing voice. I did not want her to leave but she set the mood. Also a spoken-word artist named Raye did her thing and quite well. I learned alot about Black and Jazz history in the Five Points of Colorado when the host showed a "short" film when we, the guest moved from table to table collecting samples of soul food from the caterers of different restraunts of Denver. The whole evening cost $99 for couples and was well worth it if you enjoy music, dancing and art and if you enjoy being around matured African American (some white) people. I hope to attend more functions just like this by being on the look out, because it is hard to find them in Colorado for individuals who do not engage in alcohol and drugs.
Diamonds and Champagne: Sophisticated Schtick: Moving from a small town to the "big city" (relatively speaking), has had both its positive and negative repercussions, some of the latter being the faster pace of life, rude drivers, and a general low-grade home sickness which I am pretty sure will never go away. But Denver does have its compensations, one of the brightest being the Denver Center-Performing Arts Complex. Boasting state of the art equipment, over ten thousand seats, and 8 uniquely different theaters, this award-winning complex is in the heart of downtown, metropolitan Denver. From the excellent and fully realized service staff (ushers, bartenders, and even "town criers" announcing show countdowns to the last minute smokers crowding the outside Galleria) to the opulence of the complex itself, everything is first class. While any attire is acceptable and the choices ones sees on any given day are quite eclectic, I highly recommend ditching the jeans and sneaks for your best black dress, diamonds, & heels...it just feels so right! Not to mention every girl deserves the glamour and glitz of it all, at least once in a while! If you want to start the night out right, make reservations at the Theater Cafe, which is within the complex (off the Galleria) and serves everything from Baked Brie en Croute to Prime Rib to Smoked Salmon. I wish you an exceptional night!
