Uptown Cleaners & Laundry

We recently moved to uptown Denver, needed a cleaners and decided to give Uptown Cleaners a try. We used them for about two months, but would not recommend them.

For weeks we overlooked their rude staff with their disinterested, inconvenienced attitudes, and continued to use this dry cleaners because it was conveniently located near our house. Each time we brought laundry in, never getting so much as a polite "hello" or even an acknowledgment from the young woman.

Uptown did an OK (not great) job on men's shirts. There was usually at least one shirt in the batch that either had weird yellow marks or strange creases. But the prices were good, and as I said they are right near our home.

The final straw for us was when one of the shirts we brought to them came back with a three inch long tear in the middle of the shirt! This was a brand new shirt. When we brought the shirt back to the cleaners, the young woman looked at it and said she did not remember it tearing when she cleaned it, accepted no responsibility and said she would show it to the owner and the owner would call us.

We waited a full week and heard nothing back from the owner, so we called Uptown Cleaners to find out what was going on. The woman said the owner would have to call us back. Another day went by with no reply from her. Finally my husband went back into the shop, asked the disinterested woman behind the counter what was going on and she simply replied that it was "between you and the owner" and that she had nothing to do with it.

She then gave us the owner's direct phone number and we called her on our cell phone while standing outside the shop. The owner was nice about it and agreed to pay us the $65 we had paid for the shirt at Brooks Brothers. She told us over the phone that the clerk inside the store would give us the refund.

When my husband went back inside to get the refund from the woman, she simply held out $65 to him, with no eye contact and without saying one word. Treating him with the same disdain she has treated us with from day one.

Sorry Uptown Cleaners. We've taken our business elsewhere. Lately we've been going to Smiley's on Colfax. Even though they charge 20 or 30 cents more per shirt and are a little less conveniently located for us, they somehow manage to be friendly to customers, and amazingly, they don't ruin our clothes.
