Denver Museum of Nature & Sci

Reviewed from Yahoo! Movies: It's wonderful to have IMAX in a museum of natural science! Many times the movie showing has lectures and programming to accompany the movie. These are well-worth the time! Regarding other "review", I'd add that since "god's truth" is really also a collection of men's theories and ways to explain what seems otherwise unexplainable, I'd say this is a super place to find more theories and answers--SCIENCE!

Do homework first!: As stated, for your children’s safety, “do your homework first.” So much of the museum is full of information that is strictly theory. “Do your homework,” should include explaining to the children what scientific theory is. So much of science is based on theory and many people ignorantly don’t see the difference of science theory and science fact. For example you can do some research of science papers that propose theories that we know are not true with today’s knowledge of facts. One theory I shared with my children is a 1950’s grade school science book that explained space travel as a fine science fiction adventure but in fact man would never be able to escape earth’s atmosphere. It further explained that there is no fuel substance on the earth capable of generating enough energy to lift the weight inherent in the containing fuel cells, rockets, passenger area etc. Then I had the children follow there theories calculations. The theory proved correct! Then of course the children want to know how we get to space and the moon. I showed them that the fuel and construction methods man has discovered has made the old calculations incorrect. Using the newly discovered fuels and with lighter weight, stronger composites we can build a lighter rocket they never could have designed and use fuels that where not conceived of at the time of theory.
So how does this all play into the Denver museum? Darwin’s theory of evolution has bin shown to be an incorrect theory. Show your children the current science information on D.N.A. Then if you search around (sorry I don’t have it at this writing) you will find there was, qualified and accepted by the science community, research done showing that by DNA testing man could not (by all probability) come from ape. If you compare the DNA of ALL known human race (yes a team of scientist went around the globe collecting the DNA of every known race of human) the differences do not compare to the differenced needed to assume man could evolve from ape. The time needed for the changes to take place is far beyond ANYBODYS theory of the earth’s possible age. Basically, science has proven that Darwin’s theory is mathematically impossible based on what science accepts as the earth’s age and even the origin of the universe. Children must understand science is based on current knowledge and theory. There will always be conflicting theories and hopefully young minds will want to study those theories and our current pool of knowledge, to come out with a reason to dispel or accept a given theory.
In doing your homework I suggest you SHOW the children as well as tell. When they go to the museum and see the displays depicting evolution so well it will stick in there minds more than words. Get your children’s eyes to light up in awe to Gods truth before they are dazzled by mans, scientifically proven, poor guess. I would suggest taking them to a large church that has a collection of awe inspiring Christian works. True no church has the money of the Church of Science in Denver(Natural History Museum) but maybe there is a large catholic church that could inspire there minds to God, before seeing all the fancy display’s at the museum.

Love it, but do your homework first: I love the displays and artwork. They are so visually stimulating and make for wonderful inquisitiveness. I took my girls and it really does prompt a child to ask questions and WANT to learn. But do your homework, first. I found that in going through the Prehistoric Journey and Space Odyssey, many theories are portrayed as scientific fact. A lot of things disproven years ago are still being displayed as facts and a lot of (what I have heard called) "2 truths and a lie" displays. Something I learned.....approach it all with a "How do you know that's true?" mentality.
