Boooo. After we sat down and they served the bread basket that contained cheap sliced sandwich bread and English muffins (not joking) we should have gotten up and left. The salad was pretty good (but not a German salad at all, missing carrot and cabbage salat, missing kartoffelsalat). Spaetzle was actually egg noodles, not real spaetzle and definitely not fresh. My dish was called Jaegerschnitzel but it literally made me sick to eat. I told the waiter that Jaegerschnitzel normally has a brown gravy sauce, not white like they served. He said it was regionally specific to Hanau. I lived near there for a few years, never saaw anything like it.
If you want very good German food, try Westfalen Hof on Hwy 72 about 10 miles west of Hwy 93. Very authentic and very authentic German ambiance inside.
A Pleasant Experience: My wife and I have visited the Black Forest Inn twice since we found it a few months ago. It's quite a lovely drive from Lakewood up through Golden Gate Park to Highway 119 and then north to Nederland. The Black Forest Inn has two dining areas, one on each end of the building. We particularly like the large airy dining room on the west end with its forest architectural theme. The tables are formed from large finished pieces of tree sections, and the ceiling beams and supports are also thick tree trunks, etc., reminiscent of a hunting lodge. The ceiling skylights provide ample lighting, and there is a lovely waterfall in the southwest corner of the room. The generous windows provide a wonderful view of the mountains west of town. However, the Black Forest Inn is more than just ambiance - we have found their food to be tastefully prepared and presented in a friendly and sociable manner. We will need quite a few more visits if we hope to sample the entire menu, but we would certainly recommend the Saur Bratten. Also, the Apple Struedel for dessert was absolutely yummy:-)
