Separating snowmobiling (which is super fun) from the snowmobile company (this one is below average) is important. This company's snowmobiles are not well maintained, and you're asked to literally give them a blank check before you are allowed to ride.
In my "pack" of about 10 riders leaving at the same time, one of the other riders was told "oh, the starter is burned out on that one, you have to pull start it". One of the ski alignment bars was bent on another machine. Finally, my snowmobile wouldn't start when it was time to leave, and they finally ended up having to give me another one. Not a big confidence builder right before venturing miles into the backwoods in freezing temperatures!
Even worse, although a sign on the premises says "For Unguided rentals, a $500 authorization (per machine) is required on all snowmobiles in the form of Visa, Discover or MasterCard", what's actually required is a signed, BLANK AMOUNT credit card bill, which they can literally fill in with any amount they feel like taking.
When I mentioned that I was uncomfortable handing them a signed blank check, the guy rather abruptly told me "sign it or you don't ride". Well, having rented lots of things from lots of places, I know for a fact that the "blank check" isn't necessary, and I didn't particularly appreciate having to provide it.
1st class, great 2+ hours: We were in Denver for spring break and wanted to take the kids to the snow and mountains, but only had one day for it. Snow mobiling was the perfect solution, and Grand Adventures executed the solution flawlessly.
Brand new, top notch machines. The guide was great, really wanted to make sure both the adults (it was me, my wife) and the kids (10, 5 YO) had a great time.
The learning curve for the snow mobiles was very short and not steep. After being on it for 30" - 45" for the first time, we were on a plateau above the tree line trying to see how fast we could make them go (I got mine up to 45 mph).
We were in a group of 5 snow mobiles (leader, and two families of four each mobile doubled-up). Easy to stick together.
One negative was my 5 YO was nervous being on the loud machine, and at times the trails were a little bumpy. By the time we got to the top of the mountain she was more comfortable. Another negative was I didn't realize they had snow suites and snow boots for you to use. The boots were free to use (don't remember seeing that on their website), and I wish we would have put the kids in them for their feet ended up getting a little wet in their own shows. Finally, wish we would have given ourselves that extra 30 minutes to drive there. We arrived about 15 minutes before our scheduled departure time, and it was a mad rush to fill out forms, put on helmets, etc.
Even with those negatives (none of which I pin on Grand Adventures), it was one of the highlights of our trip.
