The Rio is my favorite restaurant of all time (and my wife's). The food is excellent, the service is always top notch, and the margaritas are loaded! One of the reviews below said that the margaritas are not that strong. I am a 28 year old male and I weigh about 190 lbs. Two margs get me pretty tipsy, three and I'm seeing double. I drive after 1 margarita, but never drive if I have any more. I visit the Rio almost weekley and have had brought many friends. Even with a table of 10 people with side orders, substitutions, and drink orders, the wait staff is always right on and rarely makes any mistakes. The atmosphere at the Rio is very loud and sometimes you may have to wait. I can see where some people may find this annoying, but I happen to enjoy the atmosphere. It puts me in a good mood and is like a big party! Every one of the employees is always in a good mood and seem to enjoy their job. I read the other reviews which made reference to a funny smell inside - I have never smelled anything bad at all. In the summer, it is awesome to sit on their back patio by the fountain.

If you go, here are a few suggestions:

-Queso Del Mar - If you like seafood, try this dish that contains melted cheese, shrip, crab, mushrooms, onion, and green peppers. It is served with homemade tortillas. I like to add guacamole.

-Chile Rellenos - Stuffed with cheese, mushroom, and some other stuff. Smothered with green chili.

-Burrito de Carne - This is a steak burrito topped with green chili and chedder cheese. I always add guacamole and order a side of their hot green chili to make it a little spicier. The hot green chili alone is too hot for me.

-Margarita on the rocks with salt goes great with any meal. The chips and salsa are making my mouth water right now as I type this!

Lastly, one of the things I like about the Rio is its location. After dinner, you can walk through the Old Town square, which often contains a live band.

I recently ate outside near the fountain. During the ample time I had waiting for service, I was able to acquire a taste for the smell of the dumpsters.

Don't waste your money on the margaritas. They're not that good and not as strong as people say. Go get some Jose Cuervo and make your own at home. Then go to La Luz for better food and a cheaper price.

I rank restaurants based on three elemets.
    1.)Is the food good?
    2) Is the service good?
    3.) Is the atmosphere good?

The food at Rio Grande is not great. The service is awful, and the atmosphere stinks. Literally! It smells like garbage in and out back of this place.

I do love the Rio, but does any one else notice the SMELL of this restaurant? It is disgusting. Especially the part of the restaurant when you first walk in and to the right up on the platform there, it must be the carpet! Uhhh, it smells so bad like years and years of spilled drinks combined with dirty old socks or something. We always ask to not be put in that part of the restaurant. Who has carpet in restaurants anyway? Come on Pat, splurge a little and rip that carpet out or get it cleaned!!!!
