I used to work there, right before Mary sold the place. Mary Guenzel ( the mayors freind) Bought the place and had it for three years.I was told she bought it not for the money but to keep it in the community since it had been there for 30 plus years.I enjoyed my job there, but had a hard time with the management. They would promise you the moon, New equiptment, raises etc.I was asked to make a list of equpitment that needed replaced or serviced. They had a broken mixer that would cost around 7000 to fix they passed the buck on that. The donut fryer was not working properly it wouldnt hold heat and the drop cage was broken you had to manually hold it donuts down wich meaned you had to have your hand about an inch away from 350 degree oil it would burn you and make you tired as you we holding the cage down with outstreched arms for several minutes over and over again.I was told they would fix it after several days of running it this way.Instead of fixing the fryer they had us remodel the dining area, move the counters and paint the inside they spent the money on that but not on the fryer. The very day after the remodel, it was my alone shift and the fryer was not fixed so i refused to use it, I produced only baked goods.I didnt want to use equiptment that was dangerous and was putting out a way too greasy product. They terminated me for that, even when I offered to PAY a company to fix the fry out of my own pocket. PRODUCT was more important then anything apparantly. So Mary was in need of that money because of the stupid idea to open up a little trolley that sold the same exact stuff as the bakery RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! IT was the same store with different packaging "GEE I WONDER WHY THE TROllEY SALES ARENT SO GOOD?? Because its right across the street from the shop you stupid @#$%.AT any rate they sold the entire shop three months after they fired me.I guess they got tired of me bringing to their attention of the health issues in the place (LIKE I WAS ASKED TO) LIke using 3 month old cheese for the burritos, and using moldy fillings for the donuts. After they fired me I took my list to The Teller County Health Inspectors and they got hefty fines and reprimands fed up they sold the place.Let the truth be known they had people in there who we cheapskates on saftey for the employees, cardboard boxes for floor mats, workers NOT wearing gloves in the back baking.no hats and hairnets in the front SUE! SO Looks are deciving, the front of the place looked great, but the back was a MESS, We at one point had a GM that didnt even know how to bake.Or do donuts and didnt understand WHY I thought gloves on ready to eats foodmakers hands were important He was only worried about the COST of the gloves.Mary is a milionaire, she donated a 4 milion dollar propery to the Catholic Church. But the cost of gloves and a good working fryer or mixer was just out of the question. When Mary bought the place it wasnt bought by people who had a passion for bakery, but money hungry mongels who just wanted to make money. Next time you eat a burrito ask when it was actualy made, and when you get bisquits and gray how old is that gravy.
Hope the new owners are doing well..stop being rude to the guest LOL

We went to the Donut Mill today. The food was great, the atmosphere was quaint. The tables could have been kept cleaner and the trash cans definitely needed to be emptied, but this is a good sign that it's a thriving, busy place.

Watch out for the cashier, though. I almost had my head bitten off for not following order. Being a first-timer, I didn't realize that there is a staff person dedicated to food and a staff person dedicated to collecting money. Things were rather chaotic and I was under the impression that whatever staff was available helped the next person in liine.

I thought the cashier was extremely rude in pointing out my mistake and would have taken more of an exeption to it had I not heard her tell the next customer that she "could not read minds"! I can't believe she's still working there and can only imagine that she owns the place, because if anyone working for me acted in such a manner, they would be asked to leave on the spot.

The woman taking the food orders was VERY pleasant and it appeared to me as if she was trying to take the sting out of the casher's attitude. I hope to be able to go back, as the pastry I tried was great!

I'll just remember - stay to the left and work my way right!

The Bluebell ice cream at this place is great, a nice treat for a Texan who now lives in Colorado. We also found a table of discounted donuts as we were there at the end of the day - double treat! Go there if you have the chance. Bluebell for sale to take home, too.
