The vaccine for canine cough is ineffective in many cases due to the variation of strains that circulate through our canine community. The general strength of any given dog's immune system also comes into play when exposed to this infection. A notable comparison exists between canine care facilities and human daycare facilities, schools, and all public places. If a cold is going around in a school, some children catch the cold. This does not mean that you keep your child at home away from all other children, as exposure to common illness helps strengthen the immune system, and it is the same for dogs. Some dogs do contract canine cough 2 or 3 times due the limitations of our most modern vaccine, but we at Lucky Dog believe that the benefits of social interaction between dogs far outweighs the risk of contracting canine cough. Most reputable kennels post warnings of the possibility of canine cough in their literature, as does Lucky Dog, and that warning is provided for our client's signature upon dropping their dog off. We wish that facility cleanliness alone could keep away canine cough, but it is unfortunately not the case. We regret that this particular dog became ill, but fortunately canine cough is a simple infection which is easily treated.
