| About: | A grocery store on the move is the best way to describe this cooperative market. Its roots go back to 1973, where it began on its path to the present location. A succession of stores followed from Hyde Park to Hill Road. Today, the spacious store in the North End offers locally produced goods from organic vegetables to muffins and fresh-baked breads. Gourmet coffee and carefully selected beer and wine are also available. The deli's display case bursts with color and selections include pasta salads and a multitude of cheeses. |

Pretty nice store, but I can get a lot of the same things for a lot cheaper at Freddy Meyers. It seems like a lot of snooty people shop here to pretend they are doing something healthy for themselves and the environment.
very expensive. If you shop around you can find the same quality for a lot less. If and when Wholefoods moves to Boise, they will be much more likely to compete.
Although a little pricey, you can feel good knowing that you are spending your money supporting a sustainable business model where the employees are paid a living wage and get health benefits.
Also, they have a good selection of vegetarian and vegan offerings, a wide variety of household cleaners and cosmetics that are not tested on animals, an informed staff, and the ability to special order many things. I have a recurring special order for a particular type of dog food, and they have a great system for getting that done.
I wish there was room to expand and modernize in the location, especially to make the isles a little wider, but once you get used to it, the bustle is actually kind of fun.
Currently high on my fun food list at the co-op: chick pea sandwiches from the deli and vegetarian sushi.
