Asiago's has excellent food. I think it's the best in Boise. Even though I've liked every dish I've eaten, there are two that are my favorites. Bolzano (pasta) and L'enigma (salad). They've fixed up the place so it is roomier and just plain feels good inside. My friends who eat there rave about the food.
Asiago is not a good Italian place to eat 'true' Italian food. I have read all the reviews, my conclusion, Boisean's are truly a non-cultural city; they can't taste good food even if it hit them right between the eyes.
Someone claims that they are served fresh baked bread! Anyone can bake bread, keep it on a rack covered with plastic, and heat it up in the oven. That doesn't mean that it is fresh. In fact Asiago has not had the best track record according to the health department. If someone really wants true Italian food, IL FORNAIO is true Italian food, from Tuscany. So called Italian food that Asiago serves up is jazz up as to the owners taste when it comes to Italian food, but true Italian food it is not.
The location on Cole/Ustick had rude and extremely slow serve staff, even though the salad was ready, they had patrons wait for it, and incompetent Sous Chef with no culinary education, thank god that location closed; it was just a matter of time before someone got food poisoned.
Go to this Asiago's: Way better than the one on Cole - I used to go to that one until the food started to taste bland and the service started to irritate even my non-confrontational nerves. The one downtown is small (quaint), darling, and delicious with attentive service that can't be beat.

Reading the review by nytcolumnist showed ignorance and shallowness of the reviewer. I have eaten at this restaurant over the past two years and have found the food outstanding. The restaurant owner, or marketer, states that the food is northern Italy influenced with a Napa Valley, California touch. This restaurant is one of the best Italian restaurants in Boise, Idaho. I have also eaten at other Italian restaurants in the area. They have good food but it does NOT come up to the quality and flavor of Asiago's. This is a great place to eat Italian food.
