| About: | In the restaurant business for 35 years, the Mallane family has cooked up Italian food for generations of Idahoans. The original Ketchum location became a tradition, and the Boise restaurant is taking over that reputation. The brick-walled restaurant, located in downtown Boise, knows how to please a hearty appetite as well as the pocketbook. All of the traditional dishes are here, from pizza to Veal Parmesan, and diners can also select big family-style dinners. |

NOW CLOSED! It WAS...: NOW CLOSED! It WAS a decent place to eat, but it closed several months ago.
I could not get in the place to eat when it was open because it was ADA non-compliant; no wheelchairs allowed. I hope the new place is better.
Louie's Downtown Boise IS closed:
July 03, 2007
Downtown Boise Louie's has closed
Family-owned restaurant will continue to operate in Meridian.
Louie's Pizza & Italian Restaurant, a fixture in Boise since 1982, closed its Downtown location at 620 W. Idaho on Monday.
The decision had nothing to do with the opening of Boise's first Old Spaghetti Factory in the former Lithograph Building at 610 W. Idaho last June, said Louie's general manager Lou Mallane.
"This had been in the works since before they (Old Spaghetti Factory) came to town," Mallane said. Part of the reason for closing the Downtown location was the decision by his 67-year-old father, founder Louie Mallane, to retire, he said.
In a news release, Lou Mallane said the decision was "by no means a goodbye to the Downtown community, but rather the first step in building a future."
The first Louie's opened in Sun Valley in 1965, when Louie Mallane used a $150 bank loan to buy necessities such as flour, mushrooms and napkins.
For now, the family-owned company will focus on its store at 2500 E. Fairview Ave. in Meridian. "But we still have expansion plans," Lou Mallane told the Idaho Statesman. "Ultimately, I'd like to be in Downtown Boise again."

I thought Louie's was a great resturant to eat at.
