Probably the most over-rated restaurant in Salt Lake.
I went there with my French Class in 2005 and then again in 2006. It was a great experience to dress up in black tie and everything, and the grounds are STUNNING!
They are beautifully manicured, with swans and peacocks roaming around, a small lake, outdoor dining, and llamas along the driveway.
But you pay for the ambiance...and it's very expensive ambiance.
The food is average. It's not amazing, but it's not terrible. It's average French cuisine with average service, and a ridiculous bill!
When I went I had escargot (which I do thoroughly enjoy), salad, flat bread, and some sort of chicken thing. It was like a tube of chicken filled with mashed potatoes. Then for dessert I had banana flambee, which I have to admit it was awesome to have your waiter light your ice cream on fire! It was good, but not worth the $75 bill (for 1 meal!)
If you're interested in French/High-end cuisine there are better restaurants out there like Log Haven, Franks, Tuscany, etc that have superb food with great ambiance.
You're not going to find peacocks and swans wandering around any of those other restaurants, so I'd say go to La Caille ONCE if you must, just to experience the grounds. But don't expect a 4-star meal.
We went to La Caille for the first and only time on my husband's birthday. The grounds, the architecture, and the decor are gorgeous--and we loved seeing the peacocks, swans, ducks, and rabbits on the grounds. The service was mediocre and the food was terrible, considering that the bill with tip came to $250. My portabella mushroom crepes were cold, rubbery, and tasteless. We were very disappointed in the quality of the food.
Major dissapointment! Food was inedible almost. We loved the flowers, but once inside it all came undone.
Service was hap-hazard, people were rude, prices were outrageous. A total waste of our time and hard earned dollars.
