I dealt with a salesman named Joe on a rather quiet Thurs. morning. Everything seemed to go smoothly. I had test driven some vehicles and decided on a used Dodge Caliber. I filled out all the paperwork and spoke with a manager named Carlos. He asked if I wanted to take the car with me immediately and I said not until the following day when my husband could come in with me after work. He said that would be fine and that the salesman would give me a call if there were any problems that needed to be ironed out.
When I returned with my husband and our trade in ready to go, there was a problem. Instead of the Dodge Calibur we wanted he tried to sell us a Ford Focus! And wanted a $2,000 down payment, which was never forementioned!!! They had our home, work, and cell numbers, and they never so much as even tried to call either of us. We were furious and left right away. What a bait and switch scheme. I never expected to be treated so poorly and was quite insulted. My husband had unfortunately experienced a much similar situation years earlier with another Ford dealership.
These tricky business practices absolutely should be regulated by the state of Utah. I would never recommend Champion Ford, or any Ford dealership for that matter. We were extremely disappointed with the way both the manager and the salesman chose to handle our transaction!
Next time you get off the freeway in Sandy at 9000 S., be sure to keep driving past Champion Ford to the Auto Mall at 10600 S. I guarantee you'll have a much more pleasant experience all the way around.
In other words, avoid Champion Ford and their deceptive business practices!
Back in February 2008 I took my 1996 Ford Ranger to the old Butterfield Ford dealer now called the new and improved Champion Ford . I was having a check engine light problem which I'm sure alot of you have had . I did replace one bad sensor on my own but the light stayed on . So I thought the best thing to do is take it to a Ford dealer . I needed an EXPERT to fix it . I had to get that check engine light off so it would pass inspection . After leaving the truck for a few days my service advisor , that's what they call clerks now , told me I just had to drive it through the "DRIVE CYCLE" because everything else checked out ok . So I payed the $ 106.00 and left . I drove the truck through it's "DRIVE CYCLE" . By the way I had already done the drive cycle thing before going to Champion . So after doing it again the light remained on . Well I looked on the internet for some other repair shops and saw the great reviews for the Cottonwood Tunex . I took the truck to Tunex and they found the trouble , a bad thermostat and a weak battery . I retired from a major Utility company last year and during that 26 year run I learned alot about what good customer service is and I learned and practiced it . In other words find the problem and fix the problem . No matter how big or small . If you don't know you get someone to help you fix it . You don't tell the customer some story to get them out of your hair . I guess it's too bad Champion isn't regulated like the place I was at all those years . Maybe they would try a bit harder if the government was watching . I'm sure the owner Larry Miller would love to hear about this . The moral: do your research before assuming a dealer is the answer . Not all are . I was really impressed with the Cottonwood Tunex . They would not send me on my way without fixing the trouble !
