| About: | Ichiban's menu is very user friendly to help, even the uninitiated navigate the choices. The chef's hand rolls are a specialty, featuring unusual and delicious combinations of fish, vegetables and spices. Of course there is a full kitchen preparing a variety of traditional Japanese fare. If sushi is not your favorite, try the teriyaki chicken, seafood soba , or any one of the light and delicious tempura dishes. Alcohol is available with meals. |

Ichiban has some truly phenomenal dishes. Their tempura-fried rolls are fantastic; my personal favorites include the X-96 Roll and the Sandra's Silverlake Roll. However, for my money, it doesn't get any better than their Hamachi Kama appetizer. It's not always available, so cross your fingers.
Since an obvious change in ownership, Ichiban has gone downhill fast. Anyone familiar with their previous quality and service level should stay away and just keep a fond memory alive. After our recent visit, we have decided as a group to never go back. We were forced to wait well over an hour to be seated. A party of 5 is not that hard to accommodate. We were offered edemame on the house for our wait, but it never happened. The rolls were poorly made and all fell apart. They've opted for artsy dishes which lack flavor, as opposed to their traditional style Japanese entrees. On top of all this, we were forced to wait a ridiculously long time for even our check. At least 25-30 minutes after our dessert was served and our waiter was NOWHERE to be found. This used to be a great place, but save your time and go elsewhere at this point unless you are a trendy youth and your buddy works there. That seemed like 85% of the crowd, and possibly why 20-30 people were seated before us.
No longer Ichiban....
me and my girlfriend gina love it. the food and the atmosphere are great!
