We make a special trip to eat at Roosters. The lamb is most excellent. They are generally crowded on weekends so go early.

The day was beautiful and we were headed to Ogden, Utah for a day visit to the historical town. The Front Runner train, courtesy of UTA, looked immaculate, all clean and shiny and painted in patriotic colors of red, white and blue. After a photograph or two, we boarded the train and took up seats in the elevated cabin.

We couldn’t get over how clean the interior of the train was. A young man was in the process of cleaning the windows and we complemented him on what a great job he was doing. He was quite appreciative of having his work noticed.

It was a clear sunny day and the views from our seats were beautiful. There was still snow atop the peaks of the rugged mountains as we headed north. Upon reaching our destination, we stepped off the train and felt as though we had gone back in time. Here we were in Ogden, Utah…the old west. After a short tour of the old train depot, we headed up-town seeking a little tavern we had heard so much about. We heard that the tavern brewed fresh beer and we had built up quite a thirst and hunger by now.

Rooster’s had indoor and outdoor dining and we chose the latter. As we entered, the aroma of fresh hops and beer could be detected on the nose. We were politely accommodated and given a great table. Our waitress, ‘McCall’, provided us with outstanding service, and all with a big smile and lots of personality.

She patiently explained all the various types of beers made at the establishment and told us that the brew-master had even donated his time to brew up something special just for the day. He donated his wages for the day so the price of a pint of beer was a mere two dollars. We quickly ordered pints of beer for everyone.

‘McCall’ directed our attention to the chalk board which showed the specials of the day. There was shrimp ‘n pasta, baked chicken, salmon pasta and prime rib. Everyone else went for the lighter dishes and I chose the prime rib. I made the best choice.

It was an Angus beef prime rib and I’m here to tell everyone, it was by far the best prime rib I have ever eaten…anywhere! The meat was tender and moist and cooked to perfection. That first bite literally melted in my mouth. My eyes lit up and I told everyone at the table that they would have to take a taste of the prime rib.
Everyone agreed. It was the best tasting prime rib they had ever eaten. I’ve been around for quite a while and I’ve had many opportunities to eat prime rib at numerous establishments, but this prime rib beats them all.

I asked ‘McCall’ to tell the chef just how great the prime rib was and she said he would be happy to receive such compliments.

I told her that I am going to tell all my friends and relatives about Rooster’s and I will definitely return upon my next visit to Utah.

On a scale of 1-10, Rooster’s gets an 11 and it’s just because of their excellent Angus prime rib.

This is an EXCELLENT place for a variety of locally brewed beers and ales!(If you are able to overlook Utah's lame brewing laws. You have a choice between 3.2% and 4.0%. Everywhere else i have ever been is6.0%!) They even cater to vegetarians and vegans! Which is cool considering all the overweight meat eaters in this town. The atmosphere is casual and the decor is is very 'pub-like'. Not like an Irish pub. But, pub-like. Located in downtown Ogden. A place rife with American history. Al Capone is reported to have said that Ogden was too rough even for him!
If you visit Ogden, you should check it out. You can get what they call a 'growler'. Which is a gallon of their home brew to take home. The bottle can be refilled every time you visit.
    Very cool!!!!
