their food is good and served in a timely manner however it was not cost effective
Located near the beautiful Ogden River on 445 Park Blvd in Ogden, Utah, The Prairie Schooner Restaurant is continually an exquisite dining experience. Offering both a lunch and dinner menu, they open for lunch Mon-Fri at 11am, serving lunch until 2pm. They open for dinner at 5pm Mon-Fri, 4pm on Saturdays, and are open from 12pm to 7pm on Sunday afternoons. Reservations are not needed, but are certainly accepted ahead of time, especially for large dinner parties.
The ambience is distinctly unique, and completely unrivaled by any other Steak House of itâs kind. The theme of the decor is that of a true prairie atmosphere. A dark ceiling covered in twinkling stars, dining tables built inside of covered wagons, oil lamps lit to oneâs desired brightness, taxidermed game and wildlife animals (even a rattlesnake!), and true-blue country music that plays softly and continually in the background, all play their part in the overall environment of this incredible restaurant.
The service is, all in all, quite amiable to match the easy and pleasant mood of the rest of the dining adventure. Servers are polite and courteous, making diners feel welcome and comfortable throughout the course of their meal. I recall only one experience where my family and I became somewhat irritated at a waitress who didnât seem to make much of an effort at getting us our food on time, our requests fulfilled, and our table cleared.
My favorite entre to order when I get the privilege to dine there (which isnât all that often, because of the location and the fact that it is on the more expensive side of dining) is the steak shish kabob, and though they have many great sides to choose from, I usually go for the baked sweet potato and vegetables. Prior to ordering, costumers are given as much delicious homemade bread with honey butter as they can eat to munch on while observing the menu and speculating over what to order. The average prices for lunch are anywhere from $12.95 to $16.95. Dinner is$21.95 per person on average. The most expensive item on their menu is Lobster tail, and it is $75.95 a plate. There is an early bird special for those dining Mon-Fri from 5-6pm and on Saturday from 4-6 pm, which is $9.95 and includes a variety of house specials and sides.
In short, this restaurant obviously has many more strengths then it does weaknesses. Theyâve been around a long time, and every time I go they seem to have thriving business. The only thing I can even think they could improve upon is their service in some cases. However, Iâve never been kept waiting for a seat when Iâve gone there, as itâs a rather large restaurant. Iâd encourage anyone with a taste for fine American food and a love of the outdoors or Old West to visit this fine dining establishment in the course of your lifetime. Youâll be happy you did! I give this restaurant an absolute Five fork rating!

The Best in Ogden: This is our family's favorite restaurant. We eat at the Prairie Schooner regularly. The Atmosphere is rich and wonderful. Tables are decorated like covered wagons (very private-with a lantern inside that can be dimmed). Old time music plays in the background. The tables are circled around a campfire, small lights twinkle from above to look like stars and the campground is surrounded by life-like wild life. It is a beautiful atmosphere, the waitresses treat the patrons like gold, and the food is Fantastic. Our family members are all steak eaters, and we have never been disappointed by the quality of Prairie Schooner's food. There is no going away hungry in this establishment. If you can find the room-I also recommend the Mud Pie for dessert. It is fantastic. The only problem/complaint is Prairie Schooner fills up quickly and if you don't get in early, you may have to wait a while for your table-so plan ahead. Extremely popular restaurant in Ogden. 100% Recommend this restaurant!
