I purchased a vehicle (not a ford) for my wife from Mel Clayton about a month and a half ago. To begin with when I got possession of the car after it had been supposedly given the once over by service techs, the car was filthy on the inside and the trunk had a smell to it as though there may have been a dead body in it at one time. Also, both charger/adapters did not work as well as a bulb that was out that lights up the license plate. I went back to the dealership and got these items fixed at no charge (if had waited one more day I would have been charged) apparently you have a month to find out everything wrong with your new car and get it back to them so they can fix it. Which leads me to the next piece of business, one week after having the car worked on a SERVICE ENGINE SOON light appeared. I called ahead and made an appointment with the service department and after driving for an hour due to traffic the service guy tells me that he does not have the diagnostic tools to look at my car (remember it is not a ford) he says that the girl making the appointment should have asked me the make of the vehicle...well she did not so now I have to make an appointment with another dealership instead of the one that sold me the car in the first place. A strong lack of communication exists between all departments at Mel Clayton. Aside from the example you just read through I'll give you some more. Before picking up the car (it had already been purchased) I was calling for the cars VIN# to give to my insurance guy to get that paperwork started. Well, I called my salesman spoke to him but he was out of the office, so I called the finance guy I dealt with left 3 messages, so I called the operator told her what I needed, she said that info. is on the other side of the building OOOOOKKKKAAAAYYYY so I get transferred over to used car sales. The salesman answers I tell him what I need, he asks me who sold me the car I tell him Sean, he says yeah I can see Sean outside talking with a customer, I say I don't need him all I need is the VIN#, he says that their computers are down and that the information I am looking for is on the other side of the building, really I say the operator transferred me over to you because this is where in the building that info is supposed to be, but that is ok I say I can hold while you go get the info. I require from the other side of the building....pause ummmm he replies I don't know where you are calling from but it is raining real hard here almost like a flash flood so I don't know about goig to the other side of the building right now....... wow I say flash flood huh well you better bring Sean back inside remember you told me you could see him outside talking with a customer!!!
And Then I Promptly Hung UP

    I got more....heres another example
Part of the deal for me to take this car off their hands was that the dealership was to pay my first 3 car payments signed by the used car manager. I was supposed to get a check in the mail from Mel Clayton for about $950.00 where I could then make the payments or do whatever with the money. Well the first payment was due and no check, this time I went down to the dealership instead of calling and after about 2 hours of talking with different people and waiting alot of waiting I was cut a check. I still had to call the bank that the car loan is through and tell them what had transpired so I would not be penalized any $$$ right out of the shoot.
So all in all my experience with Mel Clayton Ford has been frustrating, time consuming and just downright backward to the way Auto Dealers are supposed to deal with the paying customer............

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!: I have been forced to use this dealer on my own personal vehicle as well as company vehicles for service. It took over a week to have my ignition cylinder replaced, which should have taken no more than a day and a half. Because the only technician who knew how to drill it out was on vacation! Company cars that have been serviced there have not been service in a timely manner either. The staff seems too young and needs to learn the value of customer's time as well as providing quick and efficient service.

ASC Certified??? Not: I also experienced difficulties with this dealership. Went in for an oil leak, a simple part was need to remedy it, but instead my "Check Engine" light came on not too long afterwards, after what seemed like endless phone calls, one e-mail with choice words and almost two months of taking my truck back, finally my simple oil leak was situated. Have not gone back since I found a more reliable mechanic.
