The food in this restaurant at the Chandler location was initially pretty good. Now it has gone really bad. May be it is under new management or the cooks might have changed. I had dinner today and the rice was all burnt out and hard to chew. The chicken was also burnt and had a funny smell (seems very old). The jerk chicken fried rice was not like anything I have tasted before - it is awful. This restaurant does not seem to run very well also. Usually they are supposed to stay open till 9:00 p and since they have very few customers they sometimes will shut down at 8 and this happened twice for me when I went to get some food there around 8:35 p or so.
First time going and I have to say is the best out of all the places I have been to as far as hole-in-the-wall places have to go. I will and have recommend this place to all my friends and family. Unlike the food in NYC you cant compare to any of the food in AZ for being like them. You want good food with out the expense in travel than just go here. Nothing fancy about it but great food and service.
Quality of individual dishes is mediocre to poor. "Fusion" is not an appropriate term for this food that is more adequately described as "combined" or even "contrasting." Perhaps the attraction is based more on the notion of a restaurant being "different" rather than other considerations. This establishment is neither Mexicali Chinese nor more broadly Mexican Chinese, but rather Asian American and Tex Mex, for which there is no attempt to fuse according to ingredients or techniques. While unduly greasy, the pork fried rice is still tasty, and there is nothing particularly wrong with the refried beans by local standards. The quesadillas are averaged if you choose a filling to your liking, but by trial and error you are entirely responsible for your own fillings and pairings without the benefit of a menu thoughtfully planned by anyone with a vision of how such fusion was supposed to work at a culinary level. Avoid the machaca and the carnitas, which are incomplete in terms of ingredients and overly salted. The red jade chicken and pork are better bets as standard battered and deep fried nuggets in a sweetened sauce if you have fast food expectations on the order of Panda Express. The chile relleno is a disaster in every respect, though in fairness this is a slightly more challenging dish. Every meal is served with a snickerdoodle, which is large and a bit cakey, though otherwise not bad. In summary, if it is the food rather than the novelty of strange combinations and large portions that is your interest, there are plenty of Chinese and Mexican restaurants in this city that you may want to try first. If you insist on this experience only to find it disappointed despite its numerous displayed awards, take a closer look at the categories of its awards on your way out.
