If you like southern, soul, or Texas home style cooking, you'll love Mrs. White's Golden rule Cafe. I've been eating there pretty regularly (about once a month since I'm rarely downtown) for several decades. My favorite is Chicken fried (beef) Steak with their superb pan gravy, Black Eyed Peas, red beans & rice, or Greens. The whole menu is good and it's written on the white walls with black marker. Mrs. White isn't there so much anymore, but her son Larry White takes care of things real well. Now, if service is slow for your taste, speak up, tell 'em what you want, don't be shy. Otherwise, it's clean and wholesome.
At 8th and Jefferson, it's convenient to the D-backs Chase Field, Suns Arena, and close to downtown. Lots of rib stickin' food for under $10. Hope to see you there! and say HI to Larry.
food is very good, but SERVICE very bad, been there so many time and the service always very bad. I get to the point that not going back to that place.
My husband and myself have heard great things about Mrs. White's since we moved to Arizona from Alabama 3 yrs ago. We finally were in the area and stopped in for some good home cooking. My husband, mother, son & myself walked in and sat down. We were looking at the menu across the walls, when the wall started crawling.. oh no wait.. just a roach. EEEW! We had not ordered yet and I told my husband "lets go.. I'm done!!". The roach was crawling on the wall that separated the kitchen from the dining area. It was a small roach..and where's the 1 roach.. there's always more! I couldn't bring myself to eat there. NO WAY! It was disappointing because we have heard soo many good things about this place and were looking forward to eating there. I guess I can cross that off my list now.. because we won't be back. GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
