I've eaten at Los Olivos nearly 20 years and found the food and service qualities to be up and down. I've watched the food quality vary from good to mediocre. In the recent several years, more mediocre than not, and I've experienced consistently a rise in my blood pressure after eating at this restaurant, I'm unsure as to why. Could it be all the salt used in the food preparation or do they use preparations which contain food additives?
The service at Los Olivos never has been super, often times being just sloppy, along with very often difficult to get beverages refilled unless they contain alcohol. It seems the younger waitresses are more intent to shake their bodices and backsides for their tips. The older try to make friends which is good in any business, nonetheless, there's only a select several that took the time to learn how to serve food and beverages properly.
There were 4 good regular waiters, 3 Latins and 1 American who is no longer there, I'm sorry to say. 1 of the Latin good waiters is also gone. I vividly remember one of the managers or owners commenting about the American waiter one Sunday, "He's our token white boy", which I was very disturbed about. It's a shame I'm not a lawyer.
A good note, the made in restaurant tortillas and margaritas at Los Olivos have been consistently good.
Overall, however, this good note does not keep my, nor my family's, business. There are better convenient places for good Mexican food.

Margaritas!: Pretty good strawberry margaritas. Decent service. Decent atmosphere. Average food. A reliable place for Mexican in downtown Scottsdale (when we're feeling lazy or not particularly picky).
