âºTrying Sushi for the very first time? Sushi-101 is a good place to start. The restaurant is geared mostly towards the up and coming college age group; a good selection of menu items, cozy/social atmosphere and, -it's just about the right amount of food for the price although, you might expect the rolls to be a little larger.
My friends and I attended sushi 101 in Tempe on 07/10/09 at 6:30 pm, we were sitting in the sushi bar. The service was a little slow but we didn't mind because we were out of work so we didn't mind the wait.
30 minutes after the meal we started noticing things were not right. It was a good thing we already got our meal because now it was 45 minutes and during that time none of the people who were making the sushi has washed their hands. The guy in the middle actually dropped his towel he was using, placed it back on the station, cleaned his station and even cleaned the knife he was using to cut everything with the same towel. With the same gloves he has been using this whole time he touched the microwave, receipts, laminate order form, plates, fish and veggies. All of them did not change their gloves or washed their hands. The guy in the middle also dropped salmon even thought it was covered by plastic wrap but he picked it up and cut it up and served it.
We have been here before and have been happy with everything, but now that we have experienced everything and saw what we did. We are not coming back to sushi 101.
Terrible....full of students, the service is slow and rude. The fish is dry. I went here because I'd heard good things, but I was really disappointed. Plus they got my order wrong, which I can't believe even happened because I wrote it down for them on some laminated sushi card they gave me.
I'll never go back.
